The Philosophy of
Reason
by
Keith Smith,
Ephrata, PA
If hindsight is better than foresight, then it
stands to reason that we should have elected Al Gore in 2000. But no,
it didn’t matter to people that we had a balanced budget, or the fact
that we had a surplus. The American people were angry, because
President Bill Clinton messed around and got caught. Oh yeah, then he
lied about it. But I have to ask: When Bill Clinton made his mistake,
were over four thousand American soldiers killed in a foreign land?
Did Bill Clinton make a habit of lying to the American people about
matters of national importance or national security? What’s up with
that? How many people in this nation ever gave Al Gore’s stand on
global warming some serious consideration before they voted in
November of 2000? I’m sure we could have swayed him; because Al Gore
has a heart for people, at least that’s what hindsight shows me,
because of his important stand on the issue now. Republicans make fun
of Gore, but no one in the Bush administration will be winning a Nobel
Prize for peace any time soon. I mean seriously, what’s up with
that? George W. Bush could not have predicted 9-11, but he surrounded
himself with people who saw a way to make money through the war on
terrorism. He could have come up with a stronger, more consistent
plan, but the best he could do was this, a broken America. He himself
became a terror to the people who elected him, and to those who
didn’t, and now we are weakened, a shadow of what we once were.
Our troops fight with
honor, and the war will escalate if John McCain becomes our President,
because he’ll commit us to Iraq for a hundred years, if needed. What
could his motives be for wanting that? This may be a conspiracy
theory, but doesn’t world domination come to mind when you hear
someone say that when they want to become Commander in Chief of the
greatest military force in the world? I see through them, why can’t
everyone else? Democrats need to talk to as many Republicans as they
know, and convince them of these things. We love our American Troops
in Iraq, and in Afghanistan, and we want them to come home. We need
them here, but the Bush administration refuses. Why? In case you
haven’t noticed, Mr. Bush, you are not getting anywhere, except to
make matters worse? Our economy cannot afford this war anymore, and
this country cannot afford another Republican president.
George W. Bush is the
first president under the new banner of, “liberal-conservative,” as
far as I know, because I have no idea what’s so conservative about
spending every last penny we have, so that we’re borrowing from China,
just so we can rob the American people, and the beat goes on. Or
maybe I don’t understand what a conservative Republican is. I grew up
through Reaganomics and the eighties, but I didn’t feel the burden. I
still have so much to learn, and I will, but I do feel the burden of
this war. It’s hard to afford gasoline at my home. So I will fight
here, at my word processor, to get the word out: we need change. We
had it made in 2000. We’d just finished the strongest economic growth
that I can remember in my 38 years, and although Al Gore wasn’t as
eloquent at speech making as Clinton, he stood for values that
mattered, indeed, the same values that Clinton and most democrats
stood for. There are many good Democrats in Washington who can help
us get out of our crunch. If we could have harnessed Gore’s stand on
global warming at that time, Iraq would be paying for their own wars.
We would be prosperous, because we would be leading the world, better
able to help the impoverished. If we really create green jobs and put
the American people back to work, and bring our honored brothers and
sisters home, like the Democratic presidential nominee’s want to do,
we could begin to grow. They are sons and daughters of a free land,
and their presence is needed here.
I wonder about 9-11.
I wonder whether it would have happened, had Al Gore become president,
and in my heart I know that it would have. Osama Bin Laden had it out
for us, so we didn’t have a chance, which brings me back to the
American troops. They are doing their best to find Bin Laden; we will
never question their bravery, because they stand for freedom. If
George W. Bush would take the men out of Iraq, and focus on Bin Laden,
we might be able to catch him, but we know that once Bin Laden is
gone, someone else will pop up in his place, something George W. Bush
doesn’t understand. He needs to let Iraq decide what kind of
government it wants to be. Guarding the oil in Iraq will not defeat
terrorism, nor will building up an American presence in the Middle
East, so radical Muslims can pick them off. We need to bring our
troops home so that their wages can help stimulate our economy, and
they can work safely under the American flag.
America’s sons and
daughters need to be here, during our hour of need, as our economy
falters, so that they can take care of their families, who are in dire
straits, because the Bush administration refuses to take care of them.
The troops are not losing in Iraq, but Bush has made them a laughing
stock to Muslims, who fight for rewards in the afterlife. The
benefits that our troops deserve are taken away, so that foreign
countries can see how the president has forsaken them, laughing in
their faces. However, let them laugh, because Muslims may die for a
reward, but Americans troops die for American people, to maintain
freedom, in which they have our support. But I cannot stress enough,
the need for our troops here, at home, being heroes on American soil.
In hindsight, I would
have fought harder for Al Gore, or any Democrat willing to fight for
the people, and even now I refuse to believe that we can’t change
America’s direction. But in 2000, I was too inexperienced, I just
didn’t know enough, but I’m getting stronger and I’m going to try and
educate as many people that I can, to promote democracy.
Bruce Slater is running for the US 16th
Congressional seat, and he offers a fresh perspective, unlike our
current representative, Joe Pitts. Pitts is fat from the war on
terrorism, and he can barely move to cast a vote, unless his brother,
Bush, helps him up and around. We need someone to fight for America
and for the Americans in the 16th Congressional District, someone with
strength of character and integrity. Bruce Slater possesses both of
these qualities, and all you have to do is check out his website,
www.slaterforcongress.com, hear what he has to say, and you’ll see
he does. Check out who is funding Pitts’ campaign. Look at the
“Issues” link on the website. YOU compare Slater and Pitts. The
differences are obvious!
Try to reach out to Bruce, email his campaign
headquarters, or find out where he might be speaking. Learn about
Bruce Slater, and you’ll see that I’m right, because once you hear him
out, and then take a close look at Joe Pitts, you won’t have much
doubt about whom you should choose in November.
With Bruce Slater in
Washington, representing the 16th, and either Barak Obama, or Hillary
Clinton as president, the Democrats could move to make changes where
the Bush administration has harmed us. We need someone to go in there
and start working from day one, to start crying out on behalf of his
constituents, and Bruce Slater is ready to do that.
