Activist March at Peace Rally in D.C...
by
Lois K. Herr
Peace
activists from Lancaster, Chester, and Berks counties joined
tens of thousands of marchers for the Anti-War Rally held in
D.C. on the 27th of January.
A busload plus a van
of members of the Elizabethtown Church of the Brethren and friends
joined the Peace March. Folks who had protested the Vietnam War as
well as families with small children, and church members with a strong
peace-making history marched side by side to protest the President's
proposed escalation of troop strength in Iraq.
At the mall we met
friends from other organizations such as the Lancaster Unitarian
Universalist group, the Women's National Democratic Club, and
individuals who came on their own, like my cousin Jo and Alison and
several of her friends from Maryland. Significant numbers, creative
signs, and passionate protestors filled the mall making a strong but
peaceful statement against Bush's escalation of the Iraq War.
